Ian Froman

Drums

Ian Froman moved to the US from Ottawa, Canada, where he began playing drums in his early teens, to study Jazz Performance, first at Berklee College of Music (B.M., 1984; selected to attend the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida to study with Elvin Jones), and then with Miroslav Vitous at the New England Conservatory (M.M., 1986). Ian is a faculty member at Berklee College of Music, Drummers Collective, New School University and City College of New York. Ian lives in New York City, where he has performed and recorded with many of the citys top artists. His extensive touring in North America, Europe, and Asia has included club, concert, and festival appearances, as well as television and radio broadcasts with such artists as Dave Liebman, John Abercrombie, Sheryl Bailey, Metalwood, Noah Preminger, Michael Feinberg, Christopher Crocco, among many others.

Tony Marino

Bass

Bassist Tony Marino studied guitar before switching to acoustic and electric bass in high school to participate in the music curriculum. He began his professional music career as the house bass player at clubs and resorts in the Pocono and Catskill Mountains accompanying a myriad of well-known entertainers. Tony has played with such greats as the late Al Cohn & Zoot Sims, Mose Allison, Phil Woods, Hal Galper, Urbie Green and John Coates Jr. Tony can be heard on several “Deer Head Records” releases with Bill Goodwin, Joe Locke and Clarice Assad. His talents have been heard on recordings with Dave Liebman, Bob Dorough, Phil Woods, George Young, Jamey Haddad, Vic Juris, Phil Markowitz, and countless others.

For more than 3 decades, New York area-based pianist, composer and educator Jon Ballantyne has performed to acclaim in solo, trio, quartet and big band concerts in the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, the UK, Ireland and Israel.
Jon has released 12 albums and has garnered 2 Juno Awards, along with several Juno nominations.
Jon has studied with the likes of Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, Joanne Brackeen, Lee Konitz and Barry Harris, to name a few.
Jon has played or recorded with a host of jazz stalwarts, from Joe Henderson, Roy Haynes, Billy Hart, Paul Bley, Phil Woods and Bill Goodwin to Seamus Blake, E.J. Strickland, Chris Rogers, Vincent Herring, Devin Gray, Ben Street, Francois Houle, Ingrid Jensen, and Nicole Glover.
He has been a part of the Bill Goodwin Trio since 2016, and also has a newly formed trio comprising of drummer Ian Froman and bassist Tony Marino, performing highly creative, modern music to acclaim at festivals and clubs in 2024.
Jon will be performing at the legendary Small's Jazz Club in February, 2025, and at the esteemed venue, Mezzrow, in April 2025, both located in the heart of Greenwich Village, NYC.
